AL GARHOUD BRIDGE

facade

In 2007, the new Al Garhoud Bridge was constructed by RTA to replace the old bridge that was connecting Dubai and Sharjah since 1976. The new Bridge was made to solve the major traffic jams that the old bridge caused, it was built to have a total of 14 lanes, 7 in each direction which are able to handle 16000 vehicles per hour.

RTA had a vision that the 520 m long bridge will be representing two dominating elements of UAE- sand dunes and waves. To achieve this, piers of the Bridge were designed to resemble the sand dunes and the deck was constructed with the wave shaped underside. At the night this vision truly came to life with 1142 GVA STR9 LED luminaries, 848 blue ones placed on the Bridge deck to create water illusion and 294 warm white on the piers to create the sand dunes effect.

This was the first project that 3S executed in the UAE and the greatest reference for the years to come. As the bridge lighting is still successfully working without failures, under harsh conditions, many years after the installation, 3S got appointed to do many other bridges and intersections after.
